Study of God's word on the gift of man's labor. Serving Christ in the workplaces of our everyday lives
"...To Rejoice in His Labor, This is the Gift of God." Eccl. 5:19
PERSONAL TESTIMONY
- "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Cor. 5:17
- "Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand." Matt. 3:2
a) The day we hate the wrong way of thinking, speaking, and living, and decide to go the opposite way (God's way), is the day we become victors, and our lives take on eternal significance and influence!
- "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2
- "For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." Col. 1:16
- "Let your light (life) so shine before men, that they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matt. 5:16
- "Let every detail in your lives - words, actions, whatever, be done in the name of the Master Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way." Col. 3:17
- "Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real master, for God, confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate master you're serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being Christian doesn't cover up bad work." Col. 3:22-25
- "His Lord said to him, 'We.. done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter in the joy of the Lord.'" Matt. 25:21
POINTS TO PONDER - PRECEPTS TO PRACTICE
- Accept work as God's gift, not punishment. "...to rejoice in his labor, this is the gift of God." Eccl. 5:19; also see Deut. 28:1-14
- Recognize God as your true employer. "With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men." Eph. 6:7
- Pursue work compatible with your abilities and interests. "Neglect not the gift that is in thee..." I Tim. 4:14 Paul encouraged Timothy (II Tim. 4:5; also see Eph. 4:11)
- Lean everything possible about your job. "Give attendance to reading." I Tim. 4:13
- Don't be a time-thief. "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Eph. 5:16 "Let him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." Eph. 5:28
- Keep a daily to-do list and establish deadlines. "This one thing I do..." Phil 3:13 "To every thing there is a season." Eccl. 3:1
- Ask for God's wisdom during decision making. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him." James 1:5
- Use Criticism to your advantage. In fact, get on the positive side of it. ASK your boss for suggestions and correction. "Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured" Prov. 13:18
- Be honest about your mistakes. "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Prov. 28:13
- Be quick to ask for help and information when needed. "A man of knowledge increaseth strength...in multitude of counselors there is safety." Prov. 24:5-6
- Assist others in their responsibilities when possible. "Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it." Prov. 3:27
- Project Jesus in genuine love and enthusiasm. Resist the 'holier-than-thou' attitude. "But the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patien." II Tim. 2:24
- Do not spread garbage. "Speak not evil one of another." James 4:11 "He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends." Prov. 17:9 "The words of a talebearer are as wounds..." Prov. 18:18 "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles." Prov. 21:23
- Project an attitude of forgiveness, mercy, and favor. "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure...full of mercy." James 3:17 "Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy." Matt. 5:7
- Do more than is expected of you. "And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." Matt. 5:41
- Harness anger and control you spirit. "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." Prov. 25:28. "He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly." Prov. 14:17 "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than that taketh a city." Prov. 16:32
- Keep accurate records. "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds." Prov. 27:23
- Avoid flattery and do not give underserved praise. "Has he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool." Prov. 26:8 "A flattering mouth worketh ruin." Prov. 26:28
- Refuse the bondage of bribery and the influence of intimidation. "A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment." Prov. 17:23 "Be not afraid of their faces; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord." Jer. 1:8
- Make Jesus your work-partner. Keep God-conscious. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace. Whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3
